PC - Laser Cutting

Polycarbonate

We produce polycarbonate parts for various organizations in the manufacturing industry every week. From protective covers to boat windows in both clear and coloured polycarbonate. Approximately 80 to 85% of our polycarbonate products are cut from clear polycarbonate. The thickness varies between 1 and 6 mm.

Due to the enormous hardness of this clear plastic, polycarbonate is by far the best choice for glazing applications.

Advantages of PC

One of the big advantages of polycarbonate is the strength of the material. This material is 250x (!) stronger than glass in the same thickness. Of course, this is also the reason why we generally manufacture a lot of polycarbonate glazing. Our polycarbonate products are used for bus stops and protective covers, among other things. In addition to these applications, we receive daily requests for unique applications, from window panes to protective caps for flashlights. You can turn to us for series from 1 to 10000+ pieces!

Properties of PC

- Resists high temperatures
- Sturdy, hard and transparent material
- Enormous impact resistance
- 250 times stronger than glass and half as heavy

Laser cutting possibilities for polycarbonate

DLF Plastics is a specialist in the field of processing the thermoplastic polymer polycarbonate (PC). As explained, one of the big advantages of polycarbonate over other plastics is that it can withstand high temperatures. Of course, this is also a disadvantage for laser cutting. Because laser cutting is a thermal process, the cutting quality decreases as the material becomes thicker. We cut standard polycarbonate up to 6mm without having to finish the cutting edges. If necessary, we can cut Bronze and Charcoal polycarbonate thicker; we look at what is feasible per situation.
